BELGIAN WAFFLE RIDE
CHALLENGE
The Belgian Waffle Ride is the most difficult and unique bicycle race in the US, where both amateurs and professional cyclists race side by side after feasting on a waffle breakfast in the morning. The Belgian Waffle Ride is looking to update their event campaign with a logo, brand identity book, three digital advertisements, and an event app.
SOLUTION
The flag and lion imagery of the original logo and the Belgian flag are combined in a depiction of a lion claw scratching across the logo, revealing the Belgian flag colors. The primary color palette are the colors of the Belgian flag, a rich black, golden yellow, and bright red, along with white. The secondary color palette is taken from the scenery of the bike race; natural colors like sky blue, forest green, and a gravel brown.
The app design for this iconic bike event organizes all of the information riders need to be prepared to participate. The design system is built off of the foundational branding work; the seamless interactions provide stability for riders before embarking on the most difficult bike race in the world.
This product design exemplifies my ability to translate a concept from brand identity to a functional UX interface. More examples of my app design work are Las Vegas Local Gems, Logitech Harmony 665, Refresh, and Me Time.
