REFUGEE GUIDEBOOK
BILINGUAL TYPOGRAPHY
CHALLENGE
The Cultural Orientation Resource Center works with refugee resettlement in the United States by providing skill development training, facilitating information exchange, and disseminating information. The COR Center is asking for a 2020 version of their Welcome to the United States Guidebook with a balance of English and Arabic.
SOLUTION
The cover, back cover, and chapter numbers feature a tiled mosaic pattern created with a mix of American and Middle Eastern inspired symbols. The dark blue color represents safety and protection in Middle Eastern countries while also hinting at the American flag. Throughout the guidebook, the English and Arabic are always mirroring each other, with the English being on the left and the Arabic, which reads right to left, being on the right.
